Takayama Jinya in Gifu

Takayama Jinya is a historically significant site in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. It served as the administrative center for the Tokugawa Shogunate during the Edo period, overseeing the governance of Hida Province. Established in 1692, it stands as the only remaining example of its kind in Japan, offering a unique glimpse into feudal-era governance. The facility functioned as the local government office, handling administrative duties, legal matters, and tax collection, including the management of rice storehouses.
