The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that the estimated number of foreign visitors to Japan in August 2024 was 2,933,000, up 16.4% from the same month in 2019, the first time in six months since February that the number fell below 3 million, but a recorded the highest for August. This was the seventh consecutive monthly record high.
By market, China had the highest number of visitors in August with 745,800, followed by South Korea with 612,100, Taiwan with 564,300, Hong Kong with 246,600, and the United States with 174,000. China, while still negative compared to 2019, is showing a steady recovery and continued to be in first place following July.
