According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), the number of international visitors to Japan in December 2024 reached approximately 3.4898 million, marking a 27.6% increase compared to the same month in the previous year and a 38.1% increase compared to December 2019. This figure set a new record for the highest number of visitors in a single month. The increase was largely driven by heightened travel demand during school holidays, Christmas, and the New Year season.
Additionally, the total number of international visitors to Japan in 2024 was approximately 36.8699 million, reflecting a 47.1% year-on-year increase and a 15.6% rise compared to 2019, setting a new all-time high. Many markets recorded their highest-ever visitor numbers during peak seasons such as cherry blossom and autumn foliage periods, summer school holidays, and other key travel periods. The increase was seen across a wide range of regions, including East Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and the Middle East.
