Japan saw a new record in inbound tourism this July, welcoming 3,437,000 international visitors, a 4.4% increase compared to the same month last year. This figure surpassed the previous July record of 3,292,602 visitors in 2024 by more than 140,000, setting a new all-time high for the month.
While demand from certain Southeast Asian markets typically eases during the summer season, overall numbers were boosted by strong travel activity in East Asia, North America, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East, where school holidays drove higher inbound demand.
Notable growth was seen from China and Taiwan in East Asia, Indonesia and India in Southeast Asia, and the United States and France in Western markets.
Among individual markets, Taiwan set a new all-time monthly record, while the United States, France, Indonesia, and several others contributed to the milestone, with a total of 15 markets recording their highest-ever July visitor numbers.
Japan’s continued success highlights its growing appeal as a year-round destination, with demand remaining strong across diverse global markets even outside peak seasons like spring and autumn.
